Abstract

Gastrotomy for exploring the interior of the stomach, cardia, pylorus, or proximal duodenum may be performed for:

  • Control of hemorrhage,

  • Removal of large blood clots not removable by lavage,

  • Removal of benign tumors,

  • Removal of foreign bodies,

  • Insertion or fixation of tubes,

  • Introduction of stapling instruments for gastroesophageal, gastroduodenal, or gastrojejunal anastomoses.
