Zusammenfassung

Die Erkenntnis, daß Schmerzinformation im peripheren und zentralen Nervensystem weitergeleitet wird, ist Grundlage für eine Schmerztherapie durch reversible oder irreversible Unterbrechung dieser Informationsleitungen. Solche Unterbrechungen können pharmakologisch, z.B. durch Lokalanästhetika, operativ, z.B. durch Durchtrennung des Vorderseitenstrangs, und neuroinhibitorisch, z. B. durch Rückenmarksstimulation, erreicht werden. Diese Methoden werden durch Anästhesiologen, Neurochirurgen und Neurologen zur Behandlung von Schmerzen eingesetzt. Hier soll eine kurze Einführung in die Möglichkeiten dieser Therapieansätze gegeben werden, die sich an die vorausgehenden Kapitel über die anatomischen, physiologischen und pharmakologischen Grundlagen des Schmerzes anlehnt.
