Abstract

The following sections describe field tests to determine the stress-strain behaviour of a jointed rock mass under loadings below its strength. The objective of these tests is to establish the elastic constants as defined for the homogeneous model presented in Section 3.4.2, i.e. including the influence of discontinuities. When discussing the arrangement and evaluation the tests, particular attention will be given to the possible means of measuring the elastic constants describing transversely isotropic behaviour.
