Abstract
The Raetian and Lower Jurassic marine sediments are described as types of fossil sea bottoms. The marly to limy bottomfacies are classified in regard to their former consistence as (1) “loose or soft bottoms” (mud bottoms, stable mud bottoms, sand bottoms) and as (2) “solid or hard bottoms” (biogenic hard bottoms, and solution bottoms). A “temporary hard bottom” is interpreted as a cyclic change of (1) and (2), probably caused by a tectonic oscillation. Sediments trapped in tectonical fissures and deposited below the general plane of the sea floor are classified as “internal bottoms”. — The paleogeographic distribution of the different types of sea bottoms of this area and at that time are outlined.
