Sedimentological and Biological Characteristics of a Dachsteinkalk Reef Complex in the Upper Triassic of the Northern Calcareous Alps

Abstract

The massive Dachsteinkalk (Norian-Rhaetian) of the Hohe Göll area in the Berchtesgaden Alps was already known to the geologists of the past century as a reef complex. But untill now there was only little knowledge about the structure of the reef and about the reef-building organisms. Modern investigations started in the Dachstein area by H. Zapfe (1960) and E. Flügel (1962); a small reef complex was studied by E. Flügel and E. Flügel-Kahler (1962) near Gußwerk in Styria.
