Abstract
The purpose of the MITS project has been to design and build a network system which can be used on-board ships to interface sensors and control systems using conventional communication standards. The backbone system will be based on ethernet and the TCP/IP protocol, but also components using other serial communication standards like RS-232 or fieldbus can be a part of the network.
