Zusammenfassung
Bei der Einwirkung der energiereichen Strahlen auf flüssiges Wasser entstehen Wasserradikale, und zwar vor allem H und OH, in Gegenwart von O2 das Radikal HO2. In saurer Lösung geht das Radikal H in H +2 nach H + H+→H +2 über, und in alkalischer Lösung dissoziiert das Radikal HO2 in O −2 und H+. Die primären Reaktionen, die zur Bildung der Radikale führen, sind Gegenstand einer bereits über ein Jahrzehnt sich hinziehenden Kontroverse.
