Abstract
An attempt will be made to summarize some of the pertinent issues that have been discussed at this Symposion on Psychic Dependence, ranging from underlying factors, definitions, animal models and studies in man, to therapeutic approaches and the possible predictive value of animal model experiments for dependence liability and abuse potential. These factors may have a bearing on measures to be taken, both preventive and curative, in order to cope with problems of drug dependence and drug abuse in society, and may have an impact on attitudes, scientific approaches and legislative efforts.
