Abstract

One of the peculiarities of the problem of determining the potential for social use for drugs with properties like cannabis is that the issue has usually been settled empirically by users before the problem is anticipated by the rest of us. As most of the agents in this class, which might also include the hallucinogens, are not used therapeutically, except in an experimental way, and none seem to be destined for the usual marketplace, no systematic efforts have been taken to determine ways to anticipate the problem of their potential for social use, as in the case of narcotic analgesics.
