Biochemistry and Clinical Significance of the Trypsin-Like Proteinase Acrosin from Boar and Human Spermatozoa

Abstract

The presence of a proteolytic enzyme with trypsin-like specificity in spermatozoa of various species, including man, was demonstrated by several authors (arecent review of these results is available [1]). Besides other lysosomal enzymes this proteinase is localized in [2] or near (e.g. in the equatorial segment, cf. [3])the acrosome cap of the sperm and was therefore called acrosin by Zaneveld et al. [4].
