Zusammenfassung

Die Rolle von Viren in der Ätiologie einiger maligner Tumoren der Tiere ist eindeutig erwiesen, und so darf man erwarten, daß auch manche derartige Tumoren des Menschen durch Viren hervorgerufen werden. Trotz intensiver Bemühungen ist es jedoch bisher nicht gelungen, ein Virus als Erreger menschlicher Geschwülste einwandfrei zu identifizieren. Die Suche geht weiter, besonders auf dem Gebiet der Leukämien und der Lymphome. Unter diesen hat das afrikanische oder Burkitt-Lymphom besonders großes Interesse erweckt, weil gewisse Befunde auf eine Virusätiologie deuten.
