Abstract
Most pK values of sp2-hydrogen atoms in the various types of organic compounds lie in the range of 30–40 [8]. With the exception of some heterocyclic compounds (e.g. 1,3-thiazole, 1-methylimidazole, polyfluorobenzenes, dimethylformamide and its sulfur analogue) the kinetic acidity of sp2-hydrogens in organic compounds is much lower than that of the ethynyl sp-hydrogen in terminal acetylenes. As a result of the available basic reagents, alkyllithiums are most frequently used for deprotonation. The same holds if the organometallic intermediate is to be generated via halogen-lithium exchange from a bromo or iodo derivative [8, 10].
