Abstract
For more than a decade fast saturable absorbers have been used extensively to mode-lock and Q-switch Nd-lasers /1/. Especially, the commercially available dye Eastman No. 9860 has found wide application. In spite of the frequent use of this dye nothing is known about the fluorescence properties. It has been generally believed that this fast switching dye is not fluorescent.
