Phase Transitions in Nuclei at Low Temperatures

Abstract

The subject of these lectures is phase transitions in nuclei at low temperatures. For our colleagues in other branches of physics, this title might appear to contain a contradiction. We all learned that temperature and phase transition are concepts which apply to macroscopic systems. In what sense can they be used for a microscopic system, such as an atomic nucleus? I will try to address this question during the course of these lectures.
