Abstract
Since the initial observations in 1960 and the methodological developments that followed, somatic cell hybridization has been a fruitful tool for genetic analysis in numerous domains (see [4] for theory and [7, 8] for methodology). This technique may be exploited in the investigations of inherited peroxisomal diseases and of gene regulation related to the organelle. The determination of recessive and dominant traits of mutations, complementation analysis and the regulation of peroxisomal activities in relation to cell differentiation may be undertaken with this method. Basically, such analysis can be performed on early products of fusion (mostly heterokaryons), or alternatively, if one of the parents is a permanent cell line, on growing hybrid clones.
