Proposals for the Standardization of the Combined Treatment of Ovarian Cancer

Abstract

Malignant neoplasms of the ovary are rather common. In 1958, for instance, 890 new cases of invasive carcinoma of the cervix, and 765 of ovarian cancer were diagnosed in Sweden. We all share the opinion that, in general, the prognosis is poor. Unfortunately, symptoms of ovarian carcinoma are often absent and these neoplasms are frequently not discovered until the growth has extended to surrounding organs or has metastasized. The treatment becomes progressively less effective with increasing anatomic extent of the disease.
