Abstract
The basic element of the systemic capillaries is, in the vast majority of instances, a rather long thin tube, which often is connected at either end with other capillaries. Thus there is built up a capillary network comprising more or less loose meshes. The pulmonary or alveolar capillaries, by contrast, form a dense network which is enclosed in the alveolar wall.
