Abstract
It may at first seem strange that in a meeting on mild hypertension many of the papers should concern the nervous system. Such an emphasis arises naturally, however, from the recent resurgence of interest in the neurological control of the circulation. This introductory paper aims to pin-point some of the important neurological considerations and thus to form a framework for a more detailed discussion of the treatment of mild hypertension by subsequent contributors.
