Abstract

We investigate a nonlinear dynamics of force-free arcade field driven by slow shear flow on a photospheric boundary analytically and numerically. The Woltjer-Taylor relaxation theory is generalized to obtain the time- dependent magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) solution for the nonlinear force-free field driven by shear flow, without the linear approximation. This solution agrees with the result of reduced MHD simulations.
