Den Betrachtungen liegt der gewöhnliche Raum unserer Anschauung zugrunde. Durch ein geordnetes Punktepaar A, B ist eine gerichtete Strecke (Pfeil, Bild 5-1) bestimmt, genannt Ortsvektor \(\overrightarrow {AB.} \overrightarrow {AB} \) ist auch festgelegt durch Anfangspunkt A, Richtung und Länge (z. B. Geschwindigkeitsvektor in einem Punkte einer strömenden Flüssigkeit).
