Abstract
There are four radioactive isotopes of lead: 210Pb and 214Pb in the 238U decay chain, 211Pb in the 235U decay chain, and 212Pb in the 232Th decay chain. All except 210Pb have half-lives of less than 12 hours. Such short half-lives are of limited usefulness in geology; therefore, 210Pb with a half-life of 22.0 ± 0.5 yr. (Houtermans et al., 1964; Ramthun, 1964; Guten et al., 1967) has received the major interest. The analytical techniques for 210Pb are given in Goldberg (1963).
