Abstract
Our studies on tension in ligaments above the knee joint are actually microscopic determinations; we elected to evaluate by laboratory studies the failing strength of ligaments, as well as the relative strains, and the position of the knee joint in which the ligament is most taut. We felt the need to delineate the properties of ligaments, which we did by first comparing the ultimate failing strength when the ligament totally failed. We then compared it to the structure under microscope of these ligaments just before they failed and after they failed.
