Zusammenfassung
Die endokrine Orbitopathie tritt in etwa 70% der Fälle im Zuge einer Hyperthyreose auf. Bei den übrigen 30% handelt es sich um das Krankheitsbild der sog. euthyreoten endokrinen Orbitopathie, wobei dieser Ausdruck nicht ganz glücklich gewählt erscheint, da auch hier, wenn auch nicht klinisch, so doch funktionsanalytisch meist Störungen der Schilddrüsenfunktion nachweisbar sind. Die Pathogenese der endokrinen Orbitopathie ist bis heute nicht vollständig aufgeklärt. Es bestehen heute im wesentlichen zwei Ansichten über die Entstehung dieser Erkrankung, die sich folgendermaßen kurz umreißen lassen:
