Fractures of the Patella

  • Chapter
Knee Surgery

Abstract

Patella fractures account for approximately 1% of all orthopaedic fractures.1 Injuries to the patella occur from either direct or indirect trauma. Direct injury mechanisms include blows, falls, or dashboard impacts, while indirect fractures occur due to longitudinal forces from the violent contraction of the quadriceps.
