Ion Formation from Organic Solids

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Chemical Physics ((CHEMICAL,volume 25))

Abstract

The present communication presents preliminary results of laser mass spectrometry on four systems. First, we report on production of quasi-molecular cations and anions in amino acids. Second, we have studied methyl group transfer reactions for amino carboxylates indicating involvement of a thermal process. Third, we have studied the negative ion spectra of aromatic hydrocarbons and nitro compounds. Organic nitro-compounds cause substitution reactions via a chemical ionization solid-state source. Fourth, we have studied fragmentation patterns for amino acids contrasted with SIMS and low-energy electron impact.
