Decomposition of adduct molecules

Abstract

Anyone with practical experience of adduct formation with organic donor molecules knows that irreversible decomposition reactions often complicate the preparation of well-defined, crystalline adducts. This is important in connection with the use of acceptor halides as catalysts, and some applications will be considered in the next chapter. Decomposition of this type will be considered, initially, as a “complication” of adduct chemistry, and some possible elimination reactions will be mentioned without any attempt being made to cover all the experimental observations of possible decompositions.
