Zusammenfassung

Cholera ist eine akute, oft tödlich verlaufende Infektionskrankheit, die durch den im Jahre 1883 von Robert Koch entdeckten „Kommabacillus“ (Vibrio cholerae) hervorgerufen wird. Von ihren endemischen Herden im Ganges-Brahmaputra-Delta ausgehend hat sich die Seuche bis in die jüngste Zeit hinein immer wieder in größeren Zügen epidemisch ausgebreitet.
