On the Velocity Measurements of Sputtered Excited Atoms

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Chemical Physics ((CHEMICAL,volume 17))

Abstract

Measurements of the intensity of light emitted from sputtered excited Mg atoms as a function of the distance from the surface have been performed under an oxygen environment It is shown that: 1/inclusion of the cascade transitions plays a crucial role in analysis of the experimental data, 2/form of the velocity dependent excitation probability is much less important, 3/application of this experimental method for determination of the velocity spectrum of excited particles is very limited.
