Somatic recombination in Basidiomycetes



There is now unequivocal proof of the existence of mechanisms for genetic variability in vegetative cells. Genetic recombination has been clearly demonstrated in vegetative cells of several species of filamentous fungi. This paper will briefly review what is known of the mechanisms for genetic exchange or recombination in vegetative cells of the Basidiomycetes.
