Wave Mathematics

It is appropriate at a meeting like this to present some substantial body of rather general theory, and I tried therefore to select material of this kind, that may be of interest to everyone in the audience, in the form of a general mathematical approach to treating a wide class of physical problems that involve waves. Accordingly, my first five lectures embody such a presentation. It is concerned with both linear and nonlinear aspects of waves, with the emphasis on dispersive waves, and mainly on waves in fluids.
