Zusammenfassung
First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kreislaufforschung for their kind invitation to me, and for allowing me to participate in this Symposium on valvular regurgitation. My colleagues and I, at the National Heart Institute, in Bethesda, Maryland, U.S.A., have been interested in both the physiologic and clinical aspects of valvular heart disease, but I shall restrict myself to a summary of our studies on the hemodynamic changes which occur during valvular regurgitation. Although this work was carried out in collaboration with a large number of investigators, the efforts of Drs. A. G. Morrow, J. Ross, Jr., and S. J. Sarnoff deserve particular mention.
