Abstract

In flame hardening one can proceed in such a way that first the total surface to be hardened is brought up to hardening temperature and then quenched. This is called “total surface hardening”. Or else the workpiece is heated by a burner head immediately followed by a quench. This is called “progressive hardening” as the workpiece is only heated progressively along a line.
