The Geographic Distribution of CVD

  • Chapter
Epidemiology of Cerebrovascular Disease

Abstract

We have seen that the age-adjusted mortality rates for CVD are quite similar among 18 countries whose medical and reporting standards appear reliable. We have also shown the very striking similarities for age-specific annual mortality rates within the United States, England and Wales, Eire, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. This would indicate that, for the lands in question, the international distribution of CVD would appear quite uniform. Let us now investigate the geographic distribution within these lands.
