Abstract

When in 1932, Crohn, Ginzburg and Oppenheimer described a disease they called regional enteritis, it was generally believed that this clinical and patho logical entity was limited to the terminal ileum. It soon became apparent that the lesions may also be found elsewhere in the gut, and it is now realized that almost any part of the gastrointestinal tract may be affected.
