Abstract

This paper describes how a small, in-house team has used an “object-oriented” programming language to develop an “Interactive Schedule Maker” (ISM) on personal computers connected to a mainframe scheduling system that was based on the RUCUS package.

Beginning as a simple schedule editor with limited functions, the ISM has grown into a more complete system with users taking an active design role. This development process has worked well as a result of the power and flexibility of object-oriented programming.
