Computer-Aided Transit Scheduling

Part of the book series: Lecture Notes in Economics and Mathematical Systems ((LNE,volume 386))

Abstract

The European Community’s DRIVE programme is aimed at enhancing the role of information technology in road transport. The largest public transport contribution is CASSIOPE, one of whose roles is to design a modular system with a major scheduling component. Two of the partners in CASSIOPE had already developed leading European scheduling systems, had a long history of information exchange and are actively working towards an integration of these systems. This paper outlines the two systems and discusses problems of integration, which are being tackled by the design of common data models. Experiences are related to the wider European goal.
