In quantum mechanics, H0 and H1 correspond to the unperturbed and total Hamiltonian respectively and U t transforms the state at time t (interaction picture) into that at time t = 0 (Heisenberg picture); see, e.g., Friedrichs [3], Jauch [1] and Jauch and Zinnes [1].
