Zusammenfassung
Das Knochengewebe ist gegenüber anderen Geweben ausgezeichnet durch zwei Eigenschaften: Härte und Formbeständigkeit, beide bedingt durch eine auffällige Ansammlung fast unlöslicher Kalksalze. Gleich erhebt sich die Frage, durch welche Stoffwechselprozesse diese Besonderheit des materiellen Aufbaus zustandekommt. Durch sie ist der Knochen das einzige Gewebe, das, gegen Verwesung und Verwitterung beständig, Form und Struktur auch nach dem Tode bewahrt.
