Abstract

In 1926 Stock and Pohland 1 reacted diborane and ammonia and isolated a material analyzing as B3N3H6. It was soon established that the molecule consisted of a ring structure of alternating boron arid nitrogen atoms and ever since, borazine, (—BH—NH—)3, and its derivatives have attracted the interest of the chemist primarily because of the resemblance of the six-membered boron-nitrogen heterocycle to benzene and its derivatives. Indeed, a comparison of a variety of physical constants of benzene and the parent borazine shows striking similarities.
