Loosening of Endoprosthesis caused by Staphylococcus epidermidis

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Ceramics in Orthopaedics ((CIO))

Abstract

Several studies have implicated S. epidermidis as a causative agent for so called “aseptic loosened prosthesis” [2,4,9,26,27]. In 1969, CHARNLEY and EFTEKHAR [3] reported: “It is paradox that simple adherence to Listerian principles has abolished virulent postoperative infections, but infection by mildly pathogenic staphylococci appears to be increasingly common.”
