Zusammenfassung

Im Berichtsjahr wurden zwei größere zusammenfassende Werke abgeschlossen. In Frankreich erschien der 3. Band der Pflanzenanatomie von Boureau, der zusammen mit den vorausgehenden Bänden (1954 bzw. 1956) eine Fülle von älteren und neueren anatomischen Befunden vereinigt. Diese werden vielfach zu Fragen der systematischen Botanik in Beziehung gestellt, wodurch das Buch seine eigene Note gewinnt. Die Meinung des Verfassers allerdings, daß es das eigentliche Ziel jeder pflanzenanatomischen Forschung sei, in der Entwicklung der einzelnen Bauelemente den Weg der Evolution zu erkennen, dürfte nicht allgemein geteilt werden, wie denn auch die Hervorhebung phytonistischen Gedankenguts im 1. Band kaum irgendwelche befruchtenden Auswirkungen verspricht. — In Deutschland ist dem schon 1954 erschienenen 1. Teil der „Praktischen Einführung in die Pflanzenmorphologie“ von W. Troll, der die Vegetationsorgane behandelt, der umfangreichere 2. Teil gefolgt. Dieser hat die Gestaltung von Blüte und Frucht sowie den Aufbau der Inflorescenzen zum Inhalt. Wenn Troll dieses reich bebilderte Werk auch als „Hilfsbuch für den botanischen Unterricht“ bezeichnet, so sind doch darin, namentlich im 2. Teil, zahlreiche neue Beobachtungen eingearbeitet.
