Zusammenfassung

In zwei Bänden werden von M. Y. Nuttonson (Amer. Inst. of Crop Ecology, Washington D. C., 1957 u. 1958) die thermischen Bedingungen für die Entwicklung von Gersten- und Roggensorten behandelt. Als Grundlage für seine Untersuchungen benützt er die langjährigen phänologischen Angaben von zahlreichen Versuchsstationen Nordamerikas, der Sowjetunion, Finnlands, Polens und der Tschechoslowakei. Wenn man die durch Breitenlage, Höhenlage und Niederschlagshöhe bedingten Abweichungen berücksichtigt, ergeben die Temperatursummen unter Verwendung von 5°C (40°F) als Basis gute Ergebnisse. Man erhält auf diese Weise sichere Anhaltspunkte für die Voraussage von Ernteterminen und die Wärmeansprüche verschiedener Sorten. Um die Breitenunterschiede zu eliminieren, kann man photothermische Einheiten verwenden (Temperatursumme × Tageslänge).
