Part of the book series: Recent Results in Cancer Research ((RECENTCANCER,volume 25))

Abstract

As a basis for reviewing biochemical mechanisms of the action of purine analogues, the normal metabolic reactions of purines should be understood. For this purpose, a brief outline of purine metabolism is presented here. Various aspects of the subject have been considered by Buchanan and Hartman (1959), Flaks and Lukens (1963), Sugino (1965), Larsson and Reichard (1967), and Blakley and Vitols (1968). These articles should be consulted in pursuing the subject further.
