Zusammenfassung
Die erst im Jahre 1983 durch Warren und Marshall erfolgte Entdeckung eines bisher unbekannten Bakteriums in der Magenschleimhaut (ursprünglich als Campylobacter pyloridis, neuerdings als C. pylori bezeichnet), der wenig später folgende Nachweis einer Gastritis auslösenden Infektiosität, die die Kochschen Postulate erfüllt [25] sowie die anschließenden Erkenntnisse von der engen Korrelation zwischen C. pylori-Befall der Magenschleimhaut, Gastritis und gastraler sowie duodenaler Ulkusbildung [12, 17, 26] stellen insofern eine unerwartete Fortentwicklung der ätiologischen und pathologisch-anatomischen Erforschung des Komplexes Gastritis/Ulkus-krankheit dar, als die Beschäftigung der neuzeitlichen Medizin mit der Magenschleimhautentzündung einerseits und der hiermit in Zusammenhang stehenden Ulkusbildung andererseits sehr früh, d.h. mit Fr. Hoffmann (1706) und Morgagni (1761) einsetzte; bereits 1806 hatte Broussais den Versuch einer systematisch begründeten Lehre von der Gastritis als häufige Krankheit und Ursache aller möglicher sekundärer Leiden entwickelt (Übersicht: [20]). Der Begriff der Gastritis verfiel unter dem Einfluß von Barras (1829) in Frankreich allerdings bald der völligen Ablehnung, da -u. a. auch von Engel (1854) — gezeigt wurde, daß Broussais dem Irrtum erlegen war, postmortale Veränderungen etwa im Sinne einer Gastromala-cia acida als intravital entstandene Läsionen fehlzudeuten.
