Zusammenfassung
Neuropeptide sind Peptide, die von Nervenzellen des zentralen wie des peripheren Nervensystems gebildet werden. Ihre Synthese erfolgt im Zellkörper peptiderger Neurone. Alle bisher bekannten Neuropeptide werden in hochmolekularer Form, dem Präkursormolekül, synthetisiert. Die Bildung der biologisch aktiven Form der Peptide erfolgt dann durch enzymatische Spaltung des Präkursormoleküls. Dabei entstehen neben den wirksamen Peptiden auch biologisch unwirksame Peptidfragmente, über deren Funktion und Verbleib wenig bekannt ist. Ein Präkursormolekül kann aber auch in Fragmente zerlegt werden, deren Mehrheit biologisch aktiv ist.
