Zusammenfassung
Klinische Organtransplantation wurde geboren aus dem ärztlichen Drang, die Lebensbedrohung durch Ausfall eines unverzichtbaren Organes abzuwenden. Nur durch diese starke Motivation konnte der Beginn der Nierentransplantation vor gut einem Vierteljahrhundert bei noch geringen Kenntnissen über Immunreaktion und Immunsuppression gelingen, sind auch derzeitige Mißerfolge bei der Weiterentwicklung etwa der Herz-, Leber- und Lungentransplantation zu verantworten und ist die Organentnahme bei einem verstorbenen Menschen mit ihrer Belastung für die Angehörigen zu rechtfertigen.
