Zusammenfassung

„Jeder möchte alt werden, keiner alt sein.“ Dieser Gemeinplatz widerspiegelt unsere zwiespältige Haltung gegenüber der, dank moderner Medizin und guten Lebensbedingungen fast schicksalhaft sicheren Chance, tatsächlich alt zu werden. Es ist vor allem die Angst vor psychoorganischen Veränderungen, die unser Altwerden überschattet. Angehörige sind erschüttert, wenn sie einen tätigen, arbeitenden, sprechenden, denkenden Menschen zuerst nur subtil, dann immer brutaler auf einige wenige Lebensfunktionen reduziert erleben. Können wir dieses Schicksal voraus oder früh genug erkennen? Wie läßt es sich aufhalten, abwenden oder doch in seinem Lauf günstig gestalten?
