Zusammenfassung

Seit langem haben wir uns daran gewöhnen müssen, daß das Adipositasproblem nicht nur von Ärzten diskutiert wird, sondern auch zum bevorzugten Thema der Massenmedien geworden ist, die versuchen, die Aufmerksamkeit des Publikums durch Hochspielen scheinbarer Kontroversen wachzuhalten (Abb. 1): Ist Übergewicht noch ein Gesundheitsrisiko oder ist mollig schon wieder „in“? Die Verquickung ästhetischer und gesundheitlicher Kategorien und gegensätzliche Modetrends verunsichern den Laien und erschweren die Aufgaben des Arztes.
