Zusammenfassung

Die Häufigkeit eines Mitralklappenprolapses (MKP) in der Normalbevölkerung liegt, wird das Echokardiogramm als Ausgangskriterium genommen, etwa bei 4% [5–7, 10–13]. Die klinische Relevanz des echokardiographischen Befundes jedoch ist weitgehend unklar. Trotz etwa 1 000 Veröffentlichungen in der Weltliteratur über den MKP allein in den letzten 5 Jahren liegen nur sehr wenige klinische Verlaufsstudien vor; uns sind insgesamt sechs bekannt [1–4, 8, 9]. Bei nur einer von diesen [4] wurde der MKP jeweils echokardiographisch gesichert; sie beschreibt den Verlauf von 14 Patienten über im Mittel 4,2 Jahre. Unser Ziel war es, zur Klärung der klinischen Relevanz der echokardiographischen Diagnose eines MKP beizutragen und zu klären, ob verschiedenen Parametern beim MKP eventuell eine prognostische Bedeutung zukommt.
