Zusammenfassung
Humanmedizinisch wichtig sind die in Tabelle 1 aufgeführten Herpesvirusarten. Etwa drei Viertel aller in den diagnostischen Labors isolierten Viren dürften zu dieser Gruppe gehören. Allen diesen Viren sind die folgenden Charakteristika gemeinsam, die auch für die Diagnostik von Bedeutung sind:
Ihre Morphologie (Abb. 1): Das Virion besteht aus 162 Capsomeren (= virales Protein), die eine doppelsträngige DNS von je nach Art unterschiedlicher Länge umgeben. Alle Herpesviren besitzen eine Hülle, die aus Zellkernmembran der Wirtszelle besteht. Der Durchmesser des nackten Virions beträgt 100 nm, mit Hülle erhöht er sich bis auf 200 nm. Eine Unterscheidung verschiedener Herpesarten aufgrund ihrer Morphologie ist nicht möglich.
